WAIKATO COUNTY COUNCIL

The monthly meeting of the council was held, at the chambers, Hamilton East, yesterday. Present : ( Crs. Primrose (chairman), Barugh, Runciman, Seddon, Johnson and Graham. Works in Rangiriri Out-district.— The Chairman reported that in company with Cr. Johnson and the engineer he had made a tour of the Rangiriri outlying district, as authorised by the council, with a view of ascertaining what works were urgently required during the ensuing year. They had carefnlly inspected the district and had come to the conclusion that £100 would be required for the purpose. — After some discussion it was agreed that the sum named be expended. Dog Tax. — It was resolved to maintain the tax on the uld scale, namely, 5s for sheep and cattle dogs, and 10s for all other?, and the tender of Mr WUenian was accepted for supplying the collars. Hospital and Charitable Aid.— A letter of demand was received for the sum of £26(5, baing the amount for which the county is assessed for hospital maintenance and charitable aid.— The members of the council expressed 'a disinclination to pay this money except under compulsion, the more especially as the Pinko County Council had, been advised that they were not bound to pay-their share to the Thames institutions. It was, however, finally resolved that consideration of the matter be deferred for a fuller meeting. Some other business, including the passing of accounts, &&, was transacted, and the council rose.

It is probable that Miss Bens, the scientific dress cutter, of Auckland, may visit Hamilton next Monday or Tuesday. Ladios wishing to take lessons may apply for the present to Mis Gwynne, Hamilton Hotel.
