THE BUSH FIRES. [BY TELEGRAPH- PRESS ASSOCIATION.] New Plymouth, Tuesday.

m, Tuesday. At a meeting of the Relief Committee today a sub-committee was appointed to confer \\ itli a sub-committee of the Hawera di-ti ict in ascertaining the amount of damage done hy the fire Major Atkinson, Colonel Trimble, and Mr Samu"l were ap pointed to apply to the Government to .supplement the subscnptions received by a giant. It is now believed that the greater part of Mm misiinder^t Hiding between the HdWpr.i and New Plymouth committees occurred owing to a mistake in one of the tt'legiains *>ent by the agent of the Press Association here. In tho telegram the vvoids "locally aubscribpd " appeared instead of the words "ahearly bubacubed." This gave a false impression to the colony that what had been raised in Taranaki alonn would be sufficient. It is probable the Hawera and New Plymouth committees will act in unison. Mr Skinner, surveyor, handed in his report of the estimated damage at a meeting of the Relief Committee to-day, but the contents have not yet been made known.
