THE PROPOSED SCHOOL OF MINES. [BY TELEGRAPH-PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Dunedin, Monday.
A deputation from the University Council waited on Mr Larnach to-day re trie School of Mines. They pointed out that siuce the withdrawal of the Government subsidy of £500 matters weie not in a very satisfactory state. Mr Larnach made a suggestion that the council should' transfer Professor Ulrich's services to the Government, who would have,.hini- stationed at Wellington as Head Instructor of Ihe Mines Department, under the Minister of the day. Perhaps a School of Mines will be started in other places, like the Thames, the Government to subsidise by J3l for every £1 subscribed. Professor Ulrich could direct the central mining museum, and hi? services would be available when required. The Council agreed to the idea, and the Minister promised to submit the matter to the Cabinet.
