WOMAN AND TOBACCO.
He who doth not smoke hath either known no great tfrieff, or refuseth himself the softest consolation, next to that wliioh comes from heaven. "What, softer than woman F" whispers the young reader. Youug reader, woman teases as well as consoles. Womun makes half the .sorrows which she boasts the privilege to soothe. Woman consoles us, it is true, while we aro young and handsome ; when we are old and ugiy. woman snubs and scolds us. On the whole, then, woman in this scale, the weed in that, Jupiter, hang out thy balance, and -weigh them both ; and if you give tho pieference to woman, all I can say i*, the next time Juno ruffles thee — 0 Jupiter! try the weed. A German legend *avB : — " First the I/>rd mado man, then he made womin. then he felt sorry for the man, | aud made tobacco." j
