Thi: Whatawbata races came off yesterday must si!Lces>fn]ly, the finishes being remarkable clobe, and tho attendance fairly large. Messrs Lhnuier and Calder were most efficient as fetarter and judge respectively. The following are the events and results :— Hurdle Race, 2 miles. Nancy 1 Ben . 2 Three ran. Argyll fell a 4; the third hurdle from home. I

Akeake cavie in second, but ran into a post. Five ran. Cup. Kenilworth 1 Wet Sail 2 Orakau . ... . . . 3
Settlkhs' Race, 1\ miles. Wet Sail T . ... 1 Midnight 2 Norma 3 Only these three started. These comprised all the races on the programme, but a mile handicap was then got up, in which five traversed the ground on a falbe start. An accident, happily unattended by serious consequences occurred. Ingomar, bolting out of the course just at tho winning post, cannoned ftg.iin.-ifc a horse ridden oy Mr T. Connolly, or Hamilton, and standing by the post, knocking the latter animal clean off bis legs. Both horses seem to have escaped without injury, but Me Fat lane was taken up insensible. It was at one time reported that he was in danger, but we are glad to learn that he escaped with a stunning and bruises. Connolly was also momentarily stunned, and h«uf his arm rather badly bruised.
At the next effort three started and finished thus: — Akeake ... 1 Colonist 2 Fanny Fisher 3
