TE KOOTI NOT GOING TO POVERTY BAY. [BY TELEGRAPH.-PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Tuesday.
( The Native Minister replied to Te Kooti's telegram of yesterday that the settlers of Poverty Hay had expressed a very strong feeling against the proposed visit of that amnestied rebel to the distnet. I leain that amongst tho remonstrants was the Bishop of Waiupu, who should be well acnuamted with the general feeling of the residents of the locality, both Maori and EiiiopiM". The Native Minister reminded Te Kooti that altho'igh he had ieceiveda paidon, he would still be held responsible far any bioach of the peace should any distuib.moe follow from his persistence in his design, and if any loss of life would ensile, that he would bo liable to forfeit the pi otection which his pardon had obtained for him; that, in etiect, his acts might again be construed into An attempt t) overthrow law and older—in short, be rebellion. Te Kooti has thought better than to risk the consequence, and has telegraphert to tHo hon. Mr Ballance that he will comply with the Native Mmiwtei's wish, and will not on the pie^ent occasion \isit Poverty Bay.
