Alexandra Sports.
Our Boxing-Day sports were, notwith standing the more .ittr.ictive programmes of other Waikato timuphips, more numerously attended th.in the most sanguine of the piomoters anticipated. It was estimated that at the least there were somo seven or eight hundred adults of both races present, the natives preponderating. The weather was all that could be desired, not too warm with a slight breeze. Tho Government paddock, in which the spmts were held, presented a most attractive and pleasant picture, backed up by Pirongia mountain. The numerous assemblage of well-dressed visitors, the Maori ladies, or many of them not losing much in comparison with their f urer sisters in style or taste in dress, wore all bent on enjoyment. The scone was a most attractive one. The Alexandra Brass Band, which played during the day, added greatly to the enjoyment of the day. Tho young folks especially who were present in numbers almost lnnumeiable. As for the management there is not much to be said, as all passed off pretty favourably. Not a single unpleasintness occurred during the whole of the day, and not a case of drunkenness to be seen, although the blup ribbon men were apparently in u groat minonty. Mr Smith, junr., who undertook the duties of secretary at the last moment, was quite equal to this responsible position, and gave general satisfaction. Who were tho stewards I cannot hay, nor were their services much required, with the exception of a protest lodged against Glovnr for missing a hurdle in the Handicap Hurdle Race, which should have been settled at once, but was not done till the races weie over. A speculate o individual started a totalisator, bvit was not successful. Owing to in one raco one ot the stewards bringing in the wrong hoi so and declaring it the winner, the dividends got into tho wrong hands, and the fact of Clover being disqualified in the Hurdle Rice also caused trouble and loss to the ciitei prising individual, who then retired. Thespoits commenced with a raco for boys of both races under 12 years, distance, 100 yards, pme 5s and 2s (3d.
