DESTRUCTIVE FIRE IN CANTERBURY. [BY TELEGRAPH.-PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Christchurch, Monday.

A Di^nacriVK fire occurred at Oxford this morning by which three shops and two dwelling-, were burnt to the ground. The tiro broke out in Shannon's bootmitker'g^^ about 2 a.m.. and quickly spread to Dr.^^ Reeve's chemist shop, Fishers store, and Mr Hylund and W. Woodward's dwelling Very little furniture was paved, some of the occupants escaping with difficulty. The ciu.se of the fire is unknown, but it appears to have been purely accidental. Insurances : £1700 in the New Zealand office, £300 in the National, and £100 in the Colonial. The losses are considerably above the insurances.
