"What is an epistle?" asked a Sunday school teacher of her clasi. " The wife of an apostle," replied the young hopeful. Tiik word " quiz " has its origin in the brain of Quin, the actor. He one evening made a bet with a nobleman of £100 that by breakfast time the next morning there should be in the mouths of Londoners a word that was never before heard. The bet was accepted, and when the theatre had closed that night the irrepressible actor furnished eacli of the " supers " and others whom he had hired with a good lump of chalk, and instructed one and all to go through the principal streets of the metropolis and chalk on the flags the word " quu." The task was accomplished, and next morning the people were startled by the unusual sight. Some believed it a signification of danger —that a secret enemy was near, and this was his watchword. So the word went the rounds in a most amazing way, Quin, of course, won the wager, and the world won a new word.
The Bad and Worthless are never imitated or counterfeited. Thla is especially true of a family medicine, and it is positivn proof that the remedy imitated is of the highest value. As soon as it had been tested and proved by the whole world that Hop Bitters was the purest, best and the most valuable family medicine on earth, many imitations sprung up and began to steal the notices in which the press and the people of tht. country had expressed the merits of H# 8., and in every way trying to induce suffering invalids to use their stuff in* stead, expecting to make money on the credit and good name of H. B. Many others started nos trams put up in similar style to H. 8., with variously devised names in which the word " Hop" or " Hops" were used in a way to induce people to believe they were the same as Hop Bitters. AH sucli pretended remedies or cures, no matter what their style or name is and especially those with the word • • Hop" or " Hops" in their name or in any way connected with them or their name, are imitations or counterfeits. Beware of them, louch none of them. Use nothing but genuine American Hop Bitten, with a cluster of green Hops on the white label, and Dr Sonle's name blown in the glass. Trust nothing die. Druggists and Chemists are warned agaimt dealing in imitations or counter* fait*
