An Intemperate Monkey.
Not long ago there Arrived in Paris a wealthy family, who took rooms at a fashionable hotel, and who had with them a monkey, tho pet of the children. One afternoon after dinner Jacko madfr bis escape from his quarteia, and slipped into tho family's private dining-room, wheie the remains of a dinner wae on the table. Jacko fliyiod about, helping himself liberally to whatever attracted his fingf-ra, and fir ally drank frdtn a half-filled champagne bottle. This proved so delightful to tun palate that he drained the bottle, and became intoxicated. Ho began to howl, and to jump as probably no monkey ever jumped bsfore. If he could have sung a song !he would have done so ; but not knowing how to make more noise -in that manner, he pulled the cloth from the table, smashed the dishes, and flung glasses Mid silver all about the room. The crashing and smashing of glass and china ware coon brought the terrified owners and their servants upon tho saene, two of them receiving sauce-bouta full in thB faco 13 thej ra3hod in. After a eherp fight and the entire ruin of the clothes of somo of ibc rescuing party, Jaoko was sei"<3d in a corner, and when laat aeon was weepin;; bitterly under tha arm of a strong chamber-maid, who was slapping him vigorously enough to biing him btok to his senses and teach him temperance.
Fond husband: I mast leave you, dear. Tod bad. for you will bo lonely without me. Fond wife: Ah, Clarence, lo\o, if you will only flend home a parrot or a rnonke/ to take* your place, I shall ba content.
