NAPIER, Tuesday. A stt kcokr named H. Humphries wu drowned on Sunday while crossing the Ngaruroro River.
TIMARU, Tuesday. The loan in connection with the proposed harbour loan of £100,0 0 shows an overwhelming majority in favour of the proposal.
DUNEDIN, Tuesday. Bland, the representative here of Messrs. Stewart Daw son and Co., jewellers, has absconded to Melbourne. A warrant has been issued for his arrest. His defalcations are over £500. A principal of the firm arrived by the Rimutaka.
CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. The weather is beautiful for the Metropolitau Show, which is attended by large cron ds. The total number of exhibits is 1265, against 1293 last year. The quality is good Sheep, cittle and pig« display great general excellence. There is ao improvement on last year of horses, which, though not very numerous, arc good. The show of implements is equal to anything sent here, the local manufacture* and products are very superior in quality, and dairy produce excellent.
