Soiree and Concert.
In the evening of ttic <-amo day a tea. meeting and conceit in connection with the induction teivicc- was hold in the Oddfellows' Hall. The occasion brought to gctherone of thelaigestgathenngs Hamilton has witnessed foi a long tune ; about 300 members of the chinch and \ imtors paitook of tea. The walls of the laigc hall weie addoined with evergreens and flowers, beautifully arranged in aitistic design*. Theie weie ten tables, presided ovci by the following laches :— Mesdames Hnv, Hatuck, Campbell, Ptiimobc, Why to, Sl.idp, ])cy, Rnncunan, Black, Home and Mi*s Campbell. After the tables had been cleaied the chaii was taken by the Rev. J. S. JJoyd, in the unavoidable absonce of Capt. Steelo. Speeches were deli \ered by the chauman and the othei clergymen present, the Auckland mmistom taking occasion to express t v ieh gi.itification at the progress of tho chinch in Hamilton, which, from being a meie punching station, had now been iais(>d to the dignity of a separata charge. An excellent piogiamnie of vocal and mscnunentil musical selections was then given, the audience being a most appreciative one. The arrangements in connection with the concert weio most efficiently car1 ied out by Mr Y. Trow hecllar, who receh ed gieit if-siitanco fiom Mr Templer. The peifiunieis included members of the Church of Kngland and other denominations, to whom we aie desiied to convey the cordial tli.uik . of tho committee. The Orpheus (Jleo Club, under the direction of Mr Templei, ga\e a couple of their ever welcome numbeis in splendid style, and mam tamed their high reputation. The vaiions othei iteirs on tho programme, paiticularly Miss Lwwish's rendeiing of "Cleansing Fnes," which was the gem of the evening, weie iill pleasingly given, and abundantly acknowledged by the audience. We have neither the space nor the in clination to criticise the programme in detail. Everybody was actuated by a. desiio to give pleasure, and it will be quite sufficient to say that success was attained. Tho following is tho programme :— Sicied song, '' Cleansing Fires," Miss Lowish ; quirtctte, "The Sabbath Call," Hamilton Orpheus Glee Club; &010, "But Thou didst not leavo " (Messiah), Mr F. Trewheellai. Fait 11. Tart song, "The Woods," (Mendelssohn); solo, "Nil Despeiandnm," Mr H. Steele ; reading (Scotch), Mr Templer; Ballad, "Lassie," Miss B. Muuay; quartette, "Evening," and "Lutzow's Wild Hunt," Orpheus Glee Club: pianoforte solo, fantasia "Blue Hells of Scotland," Miss W. Murray ; m>lo, " Tho Scout," Mr F. Trewlieellar ; lecitation, "At the Opera," Mr Smith ; ballad, "Laddie," Miss McPhewm; hunting duet, " Hark ! thiough tin* Woods, ' Messrs Buruand and Trewlieellar ; put song, " l)ejjarture ; " (McndoKsulm) On the motion of Captain Runcunan and Mi Macgregor Hay, votes of thanks were aecoided to tho ladies who had supplied tho tables and piesided over the same, and to those ladies and gentloman who had so gciu'iously assisted in the conceit. One of the ploasantpbt ontartaimnents ever held m Jl,uuilt</ii was brought to a close with tho singing of the National anthem. The gioss proceeds amounted to about £2.">, so tint the soiree was a success financially, as well as in other lespects.
