New Ferry Steamer. Ai'ckiam), Monday Night. A handsomk new ferry steamer for the Nortli Shore Ferry Company was launched by Mr Bailey, builder, to-day.
Attempted Rape. A Chinese market gardener named Lee Cheong was arrested this afternoon on a charge of criminally assaulting Hannah Meyer, with intent to ravish her. Information was laid by Mrs Meyer's hus band. Stiangely enough, accused is cohabiting with Mrs Meyers' sister. The offence is alleged to have been committed at Meyers' house, North Shoie, alout two o'clock yesterday afternoon. Miyci says he met accused, and told him he Mas going to town. His suspicions were aiouserl., and instead of going to town he proceeded home, »vhen he was in time to see the prisoner throw Ins wife about and attempt the crime. He says his wiic resisted, and also that the Chinaman made an excuse of coming to the hoiibc to get a pair of tiouscrs shoitened. Meyer adds that he felt inclined to Kill the accused, who offered i' 3 to settle the matter.
Another Purchase of Musket's Stock. Negotiations have been concluded for the purchase of the two-year-old colt, Brigadier, by Musket—Pungawerevvcic, and now the propetty of two well-known North Shore sports. The colt is a very well grown and piomisuig one, and has been showing a deal of form on the training ground for some weeKs past.
Found Dead. Chailes Winutb, a gum digger, was found dead at the Hahirunui gum field, IS miles from Kawakawa.
