SOCIAL GATHERING AT CAMBRIDGE.

The annual social gathering in connection with S. Andrew's Church, Cambridge, was held in the Public Hall on Wednesday evening. The evening opened with a noiree, for w hi':h the ladies of the congregation provided the tables on the usual liberal and inviting sc.ile. There was a very good tttendiince of members of the congregation and their friends from various parts of the district. The musical portion of the evening-, entertainment commenced at 8 o'clock, when an excellent programme was submitted. The hall was comfortably filled, the chair being taken by the Yen. Arciideaeon Willis. Miss Parsons lerited "A Talc of tho 10th Huss.irs ' in hoi usual masterly style, and was the lccipi^nt of a shovvei of tloial compliments. Miss Sandes sang two songs, both of which weie lecuived with unusual favour. "A Vision,'' by Mi-,-. Chitty, was very sweetly rendeied, and the same may be said of the song-, of Miss Selby. Peihaps the hit of the evening was tho Chinese song (in chaiacter) of Mr Simms. The dres-> was admirable and the song throughout was exceedingly entertaining. Mr Kiiimis had to make a second vppcarance in lespoiiso to a veiy determined encore. The Mings of both Mr Russell and Mr Owen aie also entitled to special mention. The following is the progiamme:— Part song, choir; song, "Oh, who will o'er the Downs" Misa Selby ; song, " I Fear no Foe," Mr Simms ; violin solo, "The Last Rose of Summer," Dr. Murch ; song, "True to the List," Mr ltus&ell ; snnt*, "The Scout, Mr Owen ; recitation, "A Tale of the 10th Hussar-.," Miss Paisonn; song, "Love Hath many Eyes," Miss Sandes; song, "A Vision," Mrs Chitty; pi ino duet, Mrs and Miss Hill ; song, Miss Sol by ; duet, "Tho Moon has R n>ed her L.unp above," Messrs T. Hnitly and Russell ; reiding, " How we Selected our Parson," Mr W. Stewart; iiibtiumental trio from Faust, Mrs Chitty and Miss Wilson (piano), and Dr Mmch (violin); lecitation, " Kye of Waterloo," Mr Aickin ; Chinese song, Mr Simms ; song, '* Cherry Ripe," Miss Sandes; song, " Best of All," Mr Owen; «ong (comic) "The Private Still," Mr Hill (encoicd). The usual votes of thanks concluded the entertainment.
