Fitzgerald, larceny from a dwelling, nine months with hard labour ; Hori Umpa, sneep stealing, IS months; Te Hutena Hcatauga, house-breaking, four months ; Patrick Bradley, larceny from the person, was found guilty, but sentence was deferred. The charges* against Cioss of embezzling the funds of the Heads Railway Company, will be heard to-mor-IOW. DUNKDIN, Tuesday. At an adjourned meeting" ot Neill Bros.' ci editors, it was agreed to assign the estate to three trustees. Messrs (1. L. Denniston, Law, and Bartleman were elected ; in the e>ent of assignment not being completed, the three named are to act as sn pei visors. TIMARU, Tuesday. At the meeting of the borough council, to night, it was decided to use kerosene instead of gas for lighting the streets for twelve months. Gas has been used for many years, but the tender sent in for kerosone is much lower. CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. A scrioiib accident occurred at Plumpton Paik i aces this afternoon. Mr T. B. Lance, son ot Mr .1. D. Lance, M.H.R., »Vtis standing in the raddling paddock when a maie, which was being walked round, suddenly got the best of her boy, and galloped thiongh the crowd. She knocked ilown Mr Lance and a jockey named Smith. The former was struck down with such foice as to sustain slight concussion of the brain. Smith was but slightly injured. Mr Lance has since leoovcied consciousness.
It is probable that during liis sojourn in Ireland the Prince of Wales has found out what George Eliot meant by "dynamite glances."
