NEWCASTLE ROAD BOARD.

This board held its monthly meeting -it the school-house, Whatawhatn, on Monday last Present : Mesir-. Corboy (chairman), Iworeon and Crawford. Instructions were given to institute proceedings against Edward Johns for the recovery of the purchase money of Mr Towers' land, w itli interest, on account of his neglecting to 1 eply to the board's letter of the loth of July hist, requesting him to complete the purchase, or give reason for delay. Mr Wm. Shepherd's tender for work on Shepherd's hill, at !)d per cubic y.ud, was accepted. Mr Roth well was granted permission to erect a fence by the isad-^do. The following letter from the Colonial Treasurer, in leply to the boaid'a opinion on the Local Bodies Finance and Powers Bill, forwarded to him, was lead :—: — The Treasury , New Ze liand, Wellington, 24th H}, 1885.
