Now, whereas the counties of Waikato and Waipa possesucd only a few hundreds of acres of Crown Linda, the county of Raglan contained about 50,000 acre*, and tho aie* differed in every county. Tho Premici (Mr Kdgecumbe), defended tho pnnciplo of tho bill, and said most of tho objections raised by Mr Sandes ought pioporly to bo considered in committee. Me^urs Robt. Seddnn, \V. Le Quesne, tho Minister for Public Works (Mr Swiirbrick), and tho Minister for Lands suppoitcdthc bill, tho fci->t named gontloman urging that any defects in the bill could bo removed in committee. Mr Smith contended that, ns tho Onposition wore opposed to tho principle underlying the bill, thoy failod to see what advantago could be gained by going into committee. Messrs W. M. Hay, Verekor-Bindon, and Parr, also opposed the meaHurn. Mr T. G. SitiidcH moved as an amendment that tho bill be read a second timo that day six months. This was seconded by Mr Hay, but on a division, it was lost by 13 to 10. The bill was then read a second time and ordered to be committed at next sitting. Mr C. Le (Juesno resumed tho debate on the Federation resolution, and supported tho views held by the Government. Mr .Stevens opposed tho resolution, and mado an excellent hpecch, being frequently applauded. He considored that any attnmpt to force federation upon the colonies just now would loosen the bonds which held them to tho Empiro. Mi Smith moved the adjournment of tho debate, which was agreed to. On the motion of the Premier, tho Home, at 10.5 p.m., adjourned until next Tuesday.
