THE PATETERE BLOCK.
The London correspondent of the Herald, writing on June 18th, wiya :— " The trouble* of the Patetere Company appear to have at length come to an end. After long and arduous discussion, a settlement was yesterday effected of the matters in dispute between the vendors and the company, under which the vendors leceive b.ick about 102,000 acies, the company retaining about 170,000 .icres Fot some time it appeared as though the whole affair would be thrown into Ch.uiceiy, but happily better counsels pie vailed. It is not improbable that the balance ieser\ed by tho \endors will be offered to a syndicate with tho object of sending out settlers from ICngland. Messrs Dilworth, Howard, and Pounds intend to leturn to the colony in August by way of America." It is the intention of the Home company to push forward tho work of settlement. Now that tho railway will shortly bo finished to Lichfield, thero should be little troublo in getting the land takon up by the proper clasH of settler*, the railway affording every facility of communication. The blocks retained by tho local company are the Maraitai, Matanuku, Tokoroa, and Whikamaru. Tlimg, it is expected, will be disposed of in Melbourne to another company. Tho settlement arrived at between the local nnd the Home company is, we underbtfind, of a satisfactory character.
