Taw MAO haH been in this district during the lunt few day*, having attended the great tangi o\cr kaimakoini, a great Maori chief who died hero of late. Tawluao in now Mtaying at the " King's P.il.ice" Te Kopou, and is leaving for X iwhia to-morrow. It is said he has been getting signatures to a petition in reference to tho "Troaty. of Waitangi. He keep* firm to hiH "bit of blue." A ball wan givon on Friday night last nt Ru.ipuke, by the bacholors of that distuct. A larjje number of aettlerH attended, and tho event passed off with great eclat. Vbout 81 persons enjoyed tho dancing. Mr Jerome »ai M.C., and the company •separated at f> a.m. Another blue ribbon meeting will bo held in tho Wi'sleyan Church, Hagl.in, on Fiiday week. A number of young jwoplo are gottmg up recitationn, etc., for tho oc-c-.iMon. The weather is again beautiful, and crops are looking well, winter oata being very good this year. A good number of cottier* are pjeparing land for tobacco.— (Own Correspondent.)
