The public meeting held in the town hall W liwt night to consider the subject of the » recent gold ditcoveiy on Mr A. Help* land, mid wh.it steps should bo taken to iie\ elope the field, was well attended, notwithstanding the night was a severe one, some hfty being present. Mr Sinden proposed, and Mr J. J). Hill seconded, that Mr Neville Walker tike the chan.— Caiinni unanimously. The Cliannnn hawng lead the notice convening the meeting, MrJ. D. Hill then piopo-ed that a subscription list beat once opened m the loom f >r the pui|io>c of employing an experienced practical digger to prospect the locality. - S<>c mded by Mr Sinden and cauied unanimmnly. Mr A. Smith pioposed, and Mi Sape seconded, that Mr <J. A. King be appointed leciotiry.— Cained. Mi Hill proposed, and Mr Smith seconded, that an offer of 10 poi cent, per amount be offered Mr Helps on the nett valuo of nil minerals found.— Gained. A committee of .subscribers weie then chosen us follows: -Messi s.I. 1). Hill, J. Sage, Neville Walker, T. Walker, A. Smith, .1. Smden, M. Aimibi, (i. A King, and (J. Appleyard. The committee then intoi\iewed Mr Helps, tho owner of the land, who agreed to accept the offer of 10 per cent, on the nett v.vlue of any giild found on his propeity. Some €10 was then Mibscnbed in the room, and Mi Wickham appointed to collect fmther subscriptions. This, with a \ote of thanks to the chairman, teuninated the meeting. I havo since learned that the committee havo written to Mr Workman, of the Thanips. asking that gentleman to select a proper practical digger to piospcct the locality, the committee guaranteeing pay at the rate of 8s per diem, and a share in any di«co\eiy that may be made by him There'is gicat enthusiasm hcie ju-t now, all being coin meed that a \aluable discovery will eie long eventuate.
