The first was at the (Jear Meat Company Works, Lnmbton Quay, an<l the second one at Mr Ca/neau's dwellinghouse, Mulgrave-strect. Fortunately, in each case the fire was extinguished be fore it had obtained a good hold, otherwise the result must have been disastrous, as a strong gale was blowing. Mr Searle, an old and respected journalist, well-known throughout New Zealand, died at the Hospital tnis afternoon. On Tuesday evening, while attending the chess tournament, Mr Searlr was suddenly seized v ith paralysis, and he gradually sank.
WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Titokouaru and his people were at Opuiidkc this morning, and danced a haka. Afterwards Titokowaru said that the natives had met there that day to show that peace had been made with the Europeans, who, he hoped, would not put a wrong meaning on their war dress. He concluded his addicss by saying lie would shower peace upon the people for ever.
