Tin following petition has been scut by Ui<) Pi.iko County Council to lii-* Excellency tlie Governor against the proposal to [mm Te Aroha, Waioiongmnai and QnartM llle into a borough '■— To hi-. Excellency the Governor of .New Zealand. Thih petition of the Piako County Council humbly Rhewcth : Th.it with reference to n petition from certain porous at Te Aroba, presented or to be presented to your Excellency, praying that a portion of the Te Aroha Ruling of the Piako County be formed into a borough, a copy of which petition has this day been laid before this council, Your petitioners respettfullv diiMie to •tate that thin council has constructed an extensive and costly tramway and other wmks within the urea of the ]>inpo»ed borough, for the purposo of enabling tin 1 To Aroha goldh'eld to be profitably woiked, and without such works liad been constiucU'd, the said goldfield could not have been so worked. Your petitioner* dc-iie to state, fmtiioi, that the coiiarriiction of the f.iid tr.umvay and other works has invohod a largo outlay, and that considciablc liability incuired in the onstniction of the said works yet remains undi^chai^i'd. Theiefore this council lospectfully and earnestly prays that yoiii Kvcellency will delay the constitution of the wid proposed lioioiij^h until the piomoters thereof show somi' k-a-ible scheme for the fair nnd ju-t allocation of the asM't>and liabilities now appiiitaimnp to the Pi.iko county, and of relie\inK the county from siid hablity anting fiom the construction of the sud works, and incurred for the benefit of the district proposed to he enclosed within tho area of the said boiough.
