To ensure its success, the Indian and colonial Governments had guaranteed a sum of £51,000, and £76,000 had been promised by English firms. In->tead ot the system hitherto pursued of jury awards, commendatory medals would be presented to each exhibitor. The Prince further stated that facilities would be aiibrded to v isitors from India and the colonies for visiting the chief iiulustri.il centres of Gieat Britain. His Royal Highness expressed his intention to take some personal active part in the work of the commission as he had done in the case of the Paris Exhibition, and concluded with the hope that the Exhibition would convey to Tndia and the colonies an assurance that, while England was deeply moTed l>y their patriotic support during the present trials, she still retained a wish to assist in the development of their material interests.
