The Hinemoa leaves for Onehun^a tonight to bring the 'Jowinor to Wellington. Capt. Grey, of the steamer Steila, reports that on his last tup to Wellington he * isited Jackson's Head to examine the beacon, which was injured during the recent gale. He fov\nd that the beacon, which was a very heavy structure of iron, had heen broken off about a foot fiom ita rock base. There was no sign anywhere npar of the upper portion. It is Hnderstood that the Government will immediately issue oideis for the lost beacon to be replaced by another. Thirty-two of the Armed Cmistdhulnrly force arrived fiom Auckland to day. rh<-y come to Wellington for the l>ig gun practice. The Stella, which nnived from Opunake this morning, bi ought another thirty AC. In reference to the acceptance of the tender of Scott Bio*., of Chiistchnreh, for locomotives, the contract price, taking into account the cost of those mi ported, compares favourably with the «urn paid by New South Wales for locally constiucted locomotives. The number of tendeis were five, while tho others from Dunedin and Chmtehurch, respectively, were informal, as the ten. Dei a did not reach Wellington by tlte time stated in the advertisement. No tenders were received from Wellington. Mr Parslow, the carbine champion and Mr Lucas, the rifle champion, left for Auckland this evening l>y the Hotoma h.tna. The Premier lias received a letter from King M.ilietna, ot Samoa, enclosing a copy of the ai t passed by the Saino.in Parliament annexing that island to New Zealand. The Canterbury Railway Appeal Board have been asked by the Minister for Public Works fo enquire into the circumstances of a complaint made by Mr Powell, of Canterhuiy, an unemployed commissioner, ngunst the Govemiin-nt Inspector of Works at Little River. It appears that the Inspector refused to hand Mr Powell a certain time book, and his refusal wan taken exception to by Mr Powell.
