KIHIKIHI ANNUAL RACES.
Stewards.— Messrs J. L. Tole, Elmsley, Ellis, McNaught, Donovan, W. H. Grace, Wilkinson, J. Anderson, A. Kay, P. McDonnell, Cashel, Rig*. W. Thomson, Field ; Starter, Mr Ruddy ; Clerk of Scales, Mr J. W. Ellw ; Handicappers, Messrs Weathenll, and Stichbury ; Clerks of Course, Messrs Maunder «nd Henderson ; Hon. Secretary, Mr J. G. Elnisloy. In the absence of Major Jackson another gentleman acted as judge. Tuesday being beautifully cool and fine a largo number of people assembled. The arrangement* made by the committee were excellent. Owi jg to the course that was run on last vetr having been cropped, the races were held in the adjoining paddock, which necessitated running on a rougher courNf\ A clump ot ti-tree in the centre obHtructed the view of the whole coun>e. That, however, gave but additional interest, as everyone was on tiptoe of expectation to see whether the positions of the horses had been changed during tho interval they had been out of sight. The interest manifested in the races was as keen as if all the hordes were Australian crack's. But though they were not of such note, they lan in good form, and those which ran in the huidle race jumped well without exception. That game old Imrae Clover wmi thin by good jumping. McCabe, his jockey, rode very well, taking his jumps in good style. Mi» Griffith- ran him within half a length over the last hurdle, but owing to her jockey thinking he had to win over the jump he pulled up ; the winning post however was a little di.st.mcc further on, and as Mi«h Griffith-, was gaining every stride, it is more than likely bhe would have won <>n the post. After the second round Bob Sawyer came through his horses and took the lead from Clover, but he hit the fifth hurdle very lui d. throwing his rider, and by the* time he had remounted, Clover was too far ahead to be overtaken. Tho totalizator dividend was £3 12s (5s tickets) only one b9ing on thu winner. I had been misinformed when I stated in The Waikafco Times of Saturday, that the Te Awamutu Band would Im in attendance, as no arrangements had been made with them. The following is the programme. It was proved that Bob Saw>er also ran inside the prst, or went tound the wrong one. Bob Sawyer's owner also protested ngaimt Jesse Gelling, (the horie that came in necond), in th« event of Fisl.erboy being disqualified, as she was run under a new name, her former name being Apology. M tungatautari was out of it as she bolted. The stewards decidnd th it the race should lw run over again, on Saturday, next at 3. Kihikihi CiP (Handicap) of 30sov h . Distance, 2 miles.
