BKKACH OF THE SHEEP ACT. Messrs Gane and Ellis were summoned tin the information <>f the Inspector of Sheep, Mr Oldham, with ha\ mg sheep infected with lice in the Ohaupo sale yard-*. Mr (Jane, who appeared for himself and Mr Ellis, wljo i« out of theolony, admitted the offence, which wa» committed m ignorance. Mr Oldharr. said the sheep had mice been dip|>ed, as requested by him, and he theieJ>*re asked the bench to inflict the lowest possible penalty. The Magistrate inflicted a tine of 20* in each case, with cost*. There wu a similar case against Mr Jame* Bailey, Fen Court, hut this was adjourned. Win. Little, manager for Mr Jenkins, Piako, was charged with neglecting to olx>y an order of the bheep Inspector to dip his nheep, which were infected with lice. Mr Oldham said he had called at Mr Jenkins place in December, and requested defendant to dip the sheep, but he wa< told that there was no place to dip them. He called mibsequently, when Mr Little informed him that Mr Jenkins had wntten, sa> ing that he could not be compelled to dip. Thereupon he (Mr Oldham) laid the present information. Mr Little informed the court that he had that morning received a telegram from Mr Jenkins, intimating that he wan coming up at the end of the week, when he would take steps to have the sheep dipped. In consideration of this assurance, the bench inflicted the minimum penalty allowed by the act of 1884, namely, £5, with costs.
