He vrill visit the Lakes, and return to Dunedin next Friday, making a stay of a few day*. Magnificent summer weather is being experieuccd. The Hon. Mr Stuait, Premier of New South Wales, who arrived at the Bluff on Friday, lias come on a visit to the Lakes. Monday. A six roomed house at Warepa, in Cluthfc county, owned and occupied by L. Mason, was burned down early thia morning. The iusurance on the building is £100 in the South British, and £50 on the furniture in the Equitable. WELLINGTON, Monday. A child named D.ivid James Rice, agod four years, was drowned at Johnsonville on Friday. He accompanied hi* father to the cowshed, and while Mr Rice was milking, tlio youngster tdipped away and \\>s never seen alive again. Hit body was found in an adjoining creek. Mr Hooker, a gentleman who ii connected with one of tlio tore*t di\i»ions in India haa arrived here, and bring! a letter of credit to hi« Excellency the Governor from the Governor of Madras. Mr Hooker visits Ciiristchurch to interview Sir William Jer\ois, and then pioceeds to Auckland to inspect the kauri forest*. HAWERA, Monday. Another arrest Mas nnde by the police on Saturday, in connection with the i licit distillation case, in the pereo«* of George Mosa, hotelkerper, of Woodville, near where the still was found. It is ■aid that malt was found on bit premises. All hia property, inciuding horaes t cattle, etc., was taken charge of by the police.
