WANGANUI, Thuisday. The body of an infant was found this evening in a jar at the back of Mr Loasly'« premises in Victoria Avenue. It appears to have been there a long time, and smells strongly of spirits of wine. An innoest will probably be held.
WELLINGTON, Thursday. The Gezette notifies that Inspector Pender, of the Armed Constabulary Force, has been promoted to the rank of first-class Inspector. The commission of first-class of Inspector Jamea, of the Armed Constabulary Force, has been antedated from 1870 to 1867.
AYKSTPORT, Thursday. The difference between the Westport Coal Company and their colliers has been settled upon a mutually satisfactory basis, and the men return to work on Tuerday. The agreement is, that they «hall get relatively the same pay as that paid at Gnsymoutb, such rate to be settled by arbitration.
CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. The cheap railway excursion trains A here are turning out a great success. That to-day to Waitnakariri Gorge required 34 carriages with three engines to take the passengers. 1200 tickets were sold.
DUNEDIN, Thursday. The Evening Herald has been purchaced by Messrs Bracken, Batbgate, and Welland, who take possession next Monday.
Friday. At the R.M. Court to-day, in the claim for damages by Sneider, the seaman, against Capt. Faulkner, of the Warwick, for assault, Judgment was given for £2 on each of the three assaults, making £6 in all. A ten-roomed house at Andersons Bay, the property of Jas.
