A good many tcniimrary piles'and staging of the Cobden bridgr, in course of erection were carried away, including top stringers. All the tnnlH-r work has lnsen lo^t, and two sots of iron cylinders ha\e dis.i]>] wa red, and some loose timl>er for the bridge, the accident l>eing ciused by snags and masses of timU'r brought down by tho flood bearing against the temporary piles. Several xnnll bridges in the neitjhbourhood aro reported to be carried away. One effect of the flood was to sweep away the w reck of the Star of the South, which encroached seriously upon the fair way of entrance to the river. At 12 o'clock last night it disappeared, breaking a rope and several hempen ha\vser>, and swept out to gea clear of the channel. The Cobden bridge looks a sad wreck now. Two of tho cylinder* have disappeared, and a greater portion of the temporary woodwork wa-hed away with tho roadway on top. Thr value of the cylinders alone in £1000, and tho total loss is £3000.
