ALEXANDRA.

A ruBMC meeting was held on Friday evening last in the Public Hall for the purpose of taking into consideration what stepi should be takeu to secure the remains of the Alexandra Bridgo across the Waipi, connecting the settlement, and for its repair. There was a good attendance, and Mr Jesse Sage was called to tI)P chair. The proceedings generally were of a conversational character. It wai resolved that the county council be requested to undertake the work, it being a county work. It would be well for the county to see to thu at once. You have more than once called attention to the matter, and nothing has been done. I obsene in to-day's Waikato Times, a copy of the engineer a report of the works necessary in Wai pa County, but not a word about the Wai pa bridge. Certainly the gentleman U a stranger herp, but one would have thought that someone would ha»e called his attention to the urgency of the work, frqni the mere fact that there are at Teßoro and Whatawhata two large and expensive budget, which will without doubt be either extensively injured or possibly carried away should the bridge here be allowed to be destroyed by the first heavy flood that comes. This yeai, as yet, no gieat flood has taken place, but it is about thw time nuch occur, and the b r idge here now is in a dilapidated state, and should bo at once repaired. I observe further, in your report of the last meeting of the council, that the sum of i' 1724 hai been Allocated by the Public Works Office in Waipa, and that a " Rpeci.il meeting of tlie council will be held on the 27th inst., to consider the deposing of the loan." It is to be hoped that the council will see their way to give this important work their first consideration. There is no other news here just now. It is reported that the Native Minister will be here on the 29th inst. Tawhiao still remains at Kawhia.— (Own Conespondent, Jan. 17.)
