Capt. Mathers had been in the service of the New Zealand Shipping Company for many years, and was formerly in command of the Waimea, and visited this port last year in the Opawa, of which vossuls he still had charge at tin; time of the unfortunate occurrence, already referred. Ho leaves a wife and four children in London.
