There were thirty - aix offences against twenty-six prisoners, an amount he had never before seen at any sessions of the court. With one or two exceptions, however, the offences were not a veiy serious character. Joseph Simpson, labourer, was found guilty of stealing £21 at Paeroa and recommended to mercy. Sentence deferred.

Dunne his brief stay in town Captain Fairchi ld and men weie very reticent, and intimated that they would piobably return from Watwcia to Wellington diiect. Enough was gleaned, however, by that process of stuffing round peculiar to leporters, to prove that \\hate\er hitch may have oc juried in the arrangements original destination of \ essel \\ as some moi c distant pott. A case of Hi stand of arms with ammunition was placed aboard at Wellington, when the ciew was recruited by the addition of several hands. Sufficient stores for a long voyage were also shipped. His Excellency's, pm ate secretary, who citne up pos>t haste fiom Wellington, professedly for a few days stay, brought up a large amount of surplus luggage which Sip left .it the railway station, and had shipped on boaul the Hinemoa. The trunks did not consist exactly of summer changes for Auckland weather, or they would have found their way to the private secretary's appartments at the club.
