Sovoral of the horses b.vulked at the first hurdle, and the second three horses came down with thoir ndrrs. Young Papapa fell, breaking his neck, and falling on Irs rider, who for sometime it was thought was seriously hurt, but fortunately with tho exception of th. 1 shock, he his now none the worse for it. There were seven horses started for this ! race, Derby being the favourite, the horses had to go four times round the course, and for want of distinguishing colours, it would bo hard to describe the r«kce, Hastings and WainUi showed prominently all through but the ta.vourite won by two length*. The nders drew lots for their mounts, tho winner was a heavy draught horse who had no idea of going any faster than a dray jog, any attempt to pre-»s him was resented by a dead stop, and lifting his hind leg*, he just managed to get to tho post within the 7 minutes allowed, to the great disgust of his rider and tho delight of the owner, Mr T. Bakci. I'likahana last, winner 1 Selling H \ck Hack, 1 mile, entrance, 5s ; pn/c £2 ; winner to be sold for £10, surplus if nny to go to the funds. Thero wero hvo entries for this race wliich was n close one, which resulted by tho acting judge decided a dead heat, although the onlookers thought it was a win by "Tho Devil," tho nice was run over again by tho two hordes " The Dovil " winning easily. Mr P. Turner's The Devil 1 Mr (irierson's Jenny . 2 Flirt, Waipa, and Flying Mary alio ran. Handicap Huiidlk Hum:, 2 miles, entrance, ss ; Ist pri^o, £4 ; 2nd hoi>e to save his stake. Four entries, this was a capital race, all tho horses taking their jumps well won by Mr Baker's Clover . 1 Mr Baxter's Tommy 2 New Chum, and Kawlii.v also lan. Consolation Ku'E, for all beaton hmsoi 1 nulo, entrance, ss ; prize, k\ four entries. After a good contest was won by Mr Hetet's Hastings . . 1 Mr Sullivan's Mousetrap 2 Mr Cubb's Hiuemoa, and Sage's Flirt also ran. This concluded the sports.
