Ireasurcr- \lr I Allwiil. Thksk races came off on the course at (J\\yiinelatid-< on Thursday, nnd were pretty successful. The day being a holiday it \va>> oxpnoted that the attendance would be unusually largo, but m this ruspuct the promoters \n ere to somo extent disappointed. A large niiiuber of holid.iy-seekers had gone to Auckland und elsewhere, and the weather being anything but encouraging, ninny who would otherwise have attended thoughtfully remained at home. Again, theie were a number of countei attractions in the way of picnic*, ke, but, gonei ally speaking the attendance was fair, circumstances considering. Tho Hamilton district was well represented, but tho Hpeoial train was \eiy pooily patronised. The Cambridge Band, under tho ltMdeisliip of Mr Curtis, contributed gre.itly to tho success of the meeting. Tho grand stand was thinly patronised. Throughout the early part of the day the weather was all that could bo desired, but in the afternoon a heavy shower of rain compelled all to sook Knnlter, Notcrtholois, everything paused off well, and all nviduntly enjoyod thpinsekei. Thero woro a fow game-of-chauco men, who seemed to push a tinning business. As to the racing, some of the events were lather disappointing. The Hack Huidles was a gift to Chanticleer, who took his hut dies well. Old Ireland wiw expected to distinguished himself, but tho pace was too qulolc foi him. The Selling Hack Kaeo v> as perhaps tho boxt content of the day, The Fliit was the favourite. She led until within about a quarter of a mile fn in homo when the little creamytook command and fecoied a very populai victory. Uowi was heavily backed for tho Handicap, which lesulted in aboil over for Piospeio, Victory did not got away with the field or it in quito possible Ih o result might lm\e been different. The Trotting Handicap was a very successful failure. Tho handicapping.was very poor, and none of tho homes got within cooey of each other. Tho Maiden Kteoplcchaso was also a failuie. Tommy Dodd got into tho first ditch, and Ciiaiiticluor baijjlcod at the road fence, leaving the big horse {o win as ho liked. Tha Hallway Plate was a weU contested event, and resulted in a popular win for Vipt<>ry, Itflwt pnllod off the Consojatjon agaliiHt Mls» UrifflUlH. The following is n detailod account of the racing ;-— Hack Huuhles of 1550v». ; lj miles, over k\k flights of hurdles, 3ft (iin. high. Weight, lOst. Browning's b m Flirt, aged, (Walton) 2 Mr T. Pollock's eh in. Tcsmo (Jelling, aged, 3 Mr Maitelh's Mistake also ran. This was an excellent content, and resulted m an exciting \ictoiy for Mr Forrest's cieainy. Mistake and the Flirt went off with a stioug lead, and raced each other for leading honouis until about half a mile from home, when Phthisic crept to the fiont. Coining up the straight the race was doubtful, the whole four running in ■i bunch. The creamy was kept in the lead and landed a winner by about a head. The win was a very popular one. Them was 30 on the totalizator, 8 on the winner, dividend 335. The winner was sold for £'9. Nkw Yk\r Handicap of 30sovs. ; 2 miles. Nomination, 1 soy. ; acceptance, 1\ soys. Mr W. Mr Bond had some difficulty in getting the horses away. After a bad Btart Piospero got away with a good lead, Victory being left on the post. Passing the stand the first titno Prospero was still leading. Rewi, Thn Clown, and Victory followed in oidoi. (ioing round the bnck of theccmr.se Utwi threw up tho sponge, conceding «eei>nd honours to The Clown, who now disputed the lead with Piospero. At tho back <>f the course Victory was pushed forw.ud, and enteiing the sttaight looked like carrying on" tho event, but the tiding was evidently at fault. Prospero came up t!) * -ti.tight as ho liked, landing an c.i-»y winner. Victoiy being about two lengths behind. Rewi was nltogothci out of it. Tommy Dodd, on reaching tho double ditch and bank, got in tho ditch, and after a few futile attempts returned home as he went. Chanticleer baulked at the ditch leading into the small paddock, and again returned on to the course. At the second fence from home he came to grief, but Munio-j picking himself up, legained the saddle and made a second.
