THE HOLIDAYS. BOXING DAY AMUSEMENTS.

As usual the Waikato settlements with one or two exceptions offer no special inducements to residents to remain fit home during the Christmas week, and large numbers have already taken their departure for Auckland where the l'aciner club has made ample provision for their enjoyment. Those desirous of keeping Christmas day at homo in the bosom of their families, and yet are wishful to witness the Auckland races moy leave Waikato by special train tomorrow morning and if so minded can retin n the same night. Those who remain in the district will have the choice of two athletic gatherings. Those at $

Hamilton will be held on Sydney Square, and promise to afford a good day's enjoyment. The entries for the various events are much more numerous than in some former years, and the handicapping has been carefully performed. With fine weather we expect to see a large number of spectators on Sydney Square to-morrow. At

Huntly there will bo athletic sports, boat races, and horse races, and the good people of tin's coal mining district are evidently bent on establishing a sporting reputation for themselves. It'is understood that the Delta will ran from Cambridge to Huntly and back to-morrow, taking visitors to the sports, and as there is no counter attraction in the ! former place the steamer will moat likely ! be liberally patronised.

Sunday-school Picnic. To-morrow, the children of the Cambridge Presbyterian Sunday-school, will hold their annual picnic. The scene of the day's amusement has been chosen in a paddock on the farm of Mr Brown near Fencourt. The children with thejr teachers and parents will leave by the morning train for Foncourt station, returning home by the evening train.
