CONCERT AT RANGIAOHIA.
A concert was held in the school-room on Friday evening. The weather being fine and the roads in good order, the attendance was good, the room being so lull that a great many had to stand in the adjoining room. Unfortunately the gentleman who promised to play the accompaniments wa.--preventod fruiu coming at the last moment, and thare was not sufficient time for the ladiei who did play to practice the pieces ; but in spite of these drawbacks the enter tainment went off very Hinoothly. Mi Gray as usual was a host in himself. Hie comic sketches were irrosistably funny. In response to an encore he sang one song, the name of which I do not know, but at the conclusion of one verse he yawned, another sneezed, another cried, and finally wound up with a honrty laugh, as flic panacea for all ills. It i* needless to say the audience joined in most heartily. The feature of the evening was a whistling solo by Miss Gray, who accompanied herself on the piano, or more correctly speaking, whistled the accompaniments, with variations, to the air which she played. It is certainly the most extraordinary performance of the kind I ha\e ever heard, for the lady did not use one of those " mocking bird whistles," which are so cleverly used to imitate the trilling of birds ; it was a natural whistle, soft and clear, and sweet as a perfectly - toned concert flute. Of course, »he was enc.tred, and had to respond by repeating the performance. Mr C. Hunter sang exceedingly well, his rendering of the " Midship/into'" being particularly gond. Mr Johnson'*impersonations of Fred. Maccabe were excellent, and thoroughly appreciated. Aftei the concert dancing was kept up till about 2 o'clock. The proceeds will be devoted to either a treat for the school children or prizes for them,' the school committee to decido in which way the money is to bo expended. The following is a list of the piecei : — Pianoforte Duet, Mr and Miss Gray ; Song, " Rolling Home," Mr Gray ; Duet, " Juanita, Mis^ Storey ; " Impersonations of Fred Maccabe," Mr Johnson ; Song, " Tin* Hunting Morn." Miss Gray, (encore, Dresden China.) Song, "The Midshipmite," Mr C. Hunter, Beading, " Mull Jar vis," Mr Gray ; Song, " Kissing goes by Favour," Miss Storey. Interval of ton minute*. Part II. — Song, " Ilemembst or Forget," Mr C. Hunter ; " Whistling solo," Miss Gray, (encored) ; Charactm Sketch, Dundreary, Mr Gray : Song, " I seek for thee in every flower, Mr Stanton. Comic Song " One suit between two," Mr Goodwin; Song, "The Fairies," Mi-h Gray; Comic Song, "Tim Flaherty," Mr Gray, (encored). The National Anthem and a vote of thanks to the performers, and to Mr Gray for his trouble in getting up the entertainment, brought the musical part to a close. The room was then cleared fm dancing, Miss Gray- Miss Storey, and Mr Thos. Weal providing the music by turns. — (Own Correspondent.^
