REGISTRATION OF BIRTHS.

.The following extract from the New Zealand Gazette of the 13th November will doubtless be interesting to many of our readers : — Registrar-General's Office, Wellington, 7th November, 1884. Ihe attention of the public is drawn to the oppoitunity afforded, for a limited time— i. c., twelve months from the 18th October last— to persons or the parents of persons whose births cannot now be reci-.-tered under " The Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1875," to effect a special legislation by application to the RegistrarGeneral. By " The Registration of Births Extension Act, 1884," the provisions of the second section of "The Registration of Births Act Amendment Act, 1882," are re-enacted, and extend and apply to the latter Act, whioh passed on the 18th October, 1884. They are as follow :—: — " It shall be lawful for the RegistrarGeneral to register the birth of any child born in the colony previous to the period of twelve months before the date of this upt, but whose birth has not previously been registered ? provided— " (a.) That satisfactory evidence on oath, and such other proof as he may deem necessary of the fact, place, and time of birth, and of the particulars of the parents, shall be seat to the RegistrarGfineral within twelve months from the date of the Ootning into operation of the act. (b) That, on application to have such birth registered, a fee of one pound shall be paid to the Registrar-General. "The particulars of the birth and of the nature of the evidence produced shall be entered by the Retrjstrar-Qeneral in a separate book, which shall be kept by him for that purpose ; the form in which the particulars are to be registered shall be prescribed by the Registrar-General."
