CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. The Wesleyan Conterence, to day, was occupied a considerable time in verbal revisions of the Book of Discipline. It was decided to write a letter of condolence to the relatives of the late Win. Barton, of Waikato. On the motion of Mr Robsou, it »vas resolved "That, recognising the value to the connection of local preachers, this Conference resolves that it is desirable to aim at improving their stations, increasing their efficiency, and in order to do this recommends eacli annual Conference to adopt a literary and theological course of study which local preachers on trial shall be required to observe." The motion by the Rev. W. Lee, that Conference thought provision should be made for a minister receiving a unanimous invitation from his quaitevly meeting, remaining a fourth year in his circuit, under exceptional circumstances, was lost by 27 votes to 17. The remainder of the business was unimportant. At a sale of city property to-day, three lota, comprising halt-an-acre of town land at the corner of Colombo and Tuam streets, with the Prince of Wales Hotel thereon, was sold for £3645. Vincent and Co. bought the hotel.
