DEATH OF THE REV WILLIAM BARTON.

This well-known and highly-esteemed chief of the Ngatituinatnu tribe died on Friday last, after an illness of two months duration, boi ne with Christum foititude. The deceased was clergyman belonging to the Wesleyan denomination, and for a long time was actively employed in mission work amongst his native brethern in Waikato. At the time of the war in 18(33, he rendered service to the colony by the information he furnished to the Government, and bteadily refining to join tlie rebel*, and inducing his tribe and a large number of other natives to remain loyal.
