Wellington, Monday. The New Zealand Rifle Association's meeting will be held towards the end of Februaiy, or early in March. Mv Rochfort is in charge of the survey ors 1 engaged on tl c North Island Main Trunk Railway, and his staff comprises only those who made flying surveys of the v arious routes. Contracts will be out, and the first sod turned by February. Government is now considering the alterations about to be made in the Government Insurance Department. The Victoiy sailed for London, via Port Chalmers, from Wellington. She takes 3500 en cases of frozen meat, and from Port Ch.\lniei'f, (>.">oo. Heani has gone into active training for his match with Harrington for the championship of New Zealand. He leaves for Riverton about the middle of next month. The steamer Coptic, which left London for Port Chalmers last week, has 98 Government immigrants (single women) for all pai ts. Heavy gales the past few days have had a moie devastating effect upon vegetation than auy gale for years.
