The ordinary monthly meeting of the above body was held at the Town Bo.ud Office on Monday afternoon. Present : Cih. Houghton (chauman), Hughes, Hewitt and Lewis. Lewis, it was agieed to call foi tcndeis for the board's carting work, the same to bo tendered for at so much per load. Cr. Lewis, in blinking the matter foiwaid, said he did not think it proper thnt the carting should all be done by one man. A number of account-! weie passed for payment, and the meeting teiminated.
Amisekaislk woman, NorahO'Donncll, aged 30 jeais, having no home or relatives, was recently arrested in London for being drunk, beggmj.', and assaulting a policeman. The roof of this structure is a single arch of iron, and it exhibits remarkable engineering skill in the architect. New Zkaland Mkat at Home. — The following is vouched for. A gentleman living in the West End of London wanted a saddle of New Zealand mutton for a Sunday's dinner as he had invited several fiiends to dine with him. On giving the order his butcher said he did not supply it, and on being asked to obtain it stated he did not liko to have it in his shop, aa if it were known he sold New Zealand mutton it would be sure to do an injury to his trade. The gentleman then went to the Leadenhall market and procured what he wanted, at the same time informing the salesmau there of what his West end butcher had told him. The Leadenhali man thereupon produced his sales- book, and pointing to an entry remarked, "You see by this, sir, I am supplying your West End butcher with New Zealand mutton, and he gets so many (mentioning the number) sheep from me every morning." Until shippers establish agencies of their own at Home, they must expeot to see New Zealand mutton sold as best Scotch, and the salesmen securing the lion's share of the profits on it. An extraordinary vacancy has occurred in the Mangapiko Road Board. The election will take bI&co on the Ist December.! Nominations will be received rip to Thursday, the 20th inst.
