LATEST AUCKLAND NEWS. [BY TELEGRAPH. — OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

New Zealand Tobacco Company. Apokhxd, Wednesday Night. At a meeting of the New Zealand Tobacco Company to day, it was resolved to sell the business to the Auckland company, and wind up voluntarily.

The Triumph Success. At a incetiiu' to-day in the Mayor's room, it was resolved to present Mr Fraser with a piece of plate in commemoration of the floating of the Triumph.

The Unemployed. A meeting of the unemployed today, attended by 200 people, passed a resolution asking the City Council to find work. Twenty-five married and 33 single men signed the paper submitted by the Mayor, declaring their anxiety to obtain work.

The Presbytery. At the Presbytery to-day, the caso of the Rev. Mr Steele to assist and replace the Rev. Mr Macky at Otahuhu was sua* tamed.

The Direct Steam Service. Mr Coster, managing director of the New Zealand Shipping Company, has telegraphed promising that a fair proportion of the company's steamers shall come to Auckland direct.

Wrecks at Tonga. The schooner Myrtle, from Tonga, bringa particulars concerning the wreck of four vessels, which took place within a few days of each other, but fortunately were not attended with loss of life. The vessels were the barque Reconnaisance of Sydney, the three-masted schooner Smiling Morn, of Sydney, the German barque Elizabeth, and the schooner yacht Ngitagitau, built by Mr Niccol, of Auckland, during the present year, and owned by Tonga chiefs. The crews and passengers from three of the vessels have arrived here by the Myrtle, and go on fiom here to Sydney by the steamer which leaves to-night. They were picked up at different places by the Myrtle, which foitunately was in the vicinity of these numerous misfortunes just when wanted.
