[Received October 24th^l0p.jnj] The Queen's Speech. London, October 23. Parliament was opened to-dayr by commission. The J Speech from the I'll rone stated that the House, had been summoned to further consider the question of the representation of the people. The position of affaiis in the Soudan was one of painful uncertainty, Her Majesty warmly recognised the energy, courage, and i esources of General Gordon in the defence of Khartoum, and - that lie was doing his best to promote the improvement of affairs in the Soudan. The Egyptian Government were/ suppoi ting her Majesty's advisers in the difficult financial position arising out of the failure of the Conference. Regret was expressed at the recent events on the Tiansvaal frontier, and the speech announced that conjointly, with the Go» veinment and Cape Colony, the- Government will consider the best means to ensure a faithful observance of the Transvaal Convention. The Franchise Bill is the only measure, the introduction of which is promised by the speech.
The Cholera. Paths, October 23. The cholera has made an appearance at Yport a town near Rouen.
