ALEXANDRA.
Natives still continue to dispose of large numbers of small pigs here, which, I presume, are in demand for the factories. In consequence I expect the large droves of pigs fit for bacon, which have hitherto been brought here for disposal, Vi ill hencefoi lh be scarce amongst them. There was a quadrille paity held in the Public Hall by subscuption on Friday last, which was fairly successful. At the last meeting of the towi board to consider the tendeia for the office of secretary anil collector, Mr Maunder was appointed at a salary of £S 10s per annum. The only other tender received was that of the late secietiry, which was still lower, Mr Maundei's, however, being piefi'ired. In all conscience the board aic getting their cletkmg done cheap enough— labour has ceitainly the advantage of biams in this direction. Natives are particularly anxious to hear news of Taw hiao, but as yet I see no prepaiation being made for a reception ; the icason is I fancy they are all too poor just now .— (Own Correspondent.)
