CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday.
On Thursday night a stack of timber at Fleuis mill, Oxford, caught fire. The whole stack, woith £300, was destroyed, together with a shed, machinery, belts and sti'.vs. There was no insurance on the stack, but the huilding and plant were insured for £330 in the National Office. The cause of the fire jb not known. Mr John Holme 3 has replied to the unemployed that the Government has promised to insti uct Mr March who cannot goto Little RUer, and to endeavour to find work nearer home for them. At a meeting of the unemployed last night it was resolved to ask the Government to construct some of the proposed lines of lailway by small contracts, so that the unemplojed may get work at remunerative wages.
Monday. An accident occurred to the Akaroa coach on Saturday night, and Mr George Bishop, a schoolmaster, received injuries from which he died. Full drtails are not yet known. The law examinations commenced this morning there are eight candidates.
