KIHIKIHI NEWS.

A pktition has been numerously signed by both natives and Europeans praying the Government to erect a bridge across the Puniu. The erection of this bridge has been for a long time under consideration, and advantage was taken of the presence of the natives to hear the judgment of the court, as on this occasion those living in the vicinity of the Puniu river were in Kihikihi. It is a matter tor congratulation that the natives have expressd their willingness to sing this petition, as a few yeais ago they looked upon anything with suspicion which tended to give the pakeha the entree to their country, as they looked upon such a thing as an interference with their vested rights. At the last meeting of the town board the attention of the county council was called to a very dangeious culvert on the road to Rangiaohia. This culvert is situated on the bush road between C4ifford's bridge and Mr Farrell's property. The culvert, which spans a very wide drain, is very narrow. To those who are acquainted with the road the culveit is compaiatively safe, but to strangers who are unacquainted with the place it is positively dangerous, as they are liable to fall into the deep drain on either side. Judgment in the Land Court has been deferred till Friday. — (Own Correspondent. )
