[BY TELEGRAPH. — OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Uncertain Games. Auckland, Monday Night. John Brown, for playing a game called "sweating" at Epsom races, was fined £o and costs, or 14 days.

Action Against an Insurance Company. At the Supreme Court civil session to-day, in case Paul Pusche, versus the Noith British Insurance Con.pany, the jury awarded plaintiff the amount (£500) he claimed. The defendant company refused to pay without stating a reason. The defence set up was that the plaintiff had no cause of action, that the difference had been referred to arbitration. His Honour, in summing up, pointed out that defendants had not alleged that a difference existed.

Arekatera v. Walker and others. In the cnse Arekatera and others versus K. B, W.ilker ami others, an action to declare a memorandum of transfer void, Messrs Hay and Alexander appeared for the plaintiffs, and Mr Hesketh for the defendants. Owing to an informality in the signing of the warrants, the case was adjourned till next sitting of the court.

Mercury Bay Timber Company. At the half-yearly meeting of the Mercury Bay Timber Company, the report showed that the amount standing to the credit of profit and loss account is £13,335 19s 8d and the directors recom* meuded thcpayinentofan interin dividend of five per cent, which will absorb £1875 and leave a balance of £11, 460 19s 6d to be carried forward to the present year. A desultory discussion ensued v upon the future prospects of the company which were considered to be good, and the difficulty which had tended to restrict the profits of the half-year, referred to the question that the production of timber from the logs was 64£ per cent, thus showing a waste of 35£ per cent. The average sale was at the" rate of 10s per 100 feet. Mr Monk said that if the local timber companies continued to lmveayaidin Australia, it would yield them from £30,000 to £40,000 a-year.

Football. Arrangements for the football match between the Auckland and Tauranga teams have fallen through. It has been definitely decided that on Saturday afternoon next a match between Ponsotiby and North Shore combined, and a team selected from the other association clubs, which will be played in the Domain.
