TE AROHA TRAMWAY. Malicious Conduct. — Destructive Explosion Avoided.

Not a little surpiise was created in the Aroha distiict on Wednesday morning when it became known thnt some evildisposed person had been tampeiing with the tramway plant w ith a \ lew to causing serious damage, thereby prejudicing the public and the county council against the present management. Of late considerable dissatisfaction has pievailed in the Aroha district, particulaily among those concerned in the mines, in leapect to the working of the train w ay, and it is well known that a few persons have been busying themselves to make matteis appear woi&e than they really me. A few dajs ago two ttuoks, tluouph some caus-e or otlier, were not made fast in the usual way, and when about to descend one of the self-acting grades they lushed oIF down the incline, doing a laige amount of damage to tramway piopeity. No malice was then suspected, and the mishap was put dow n to pure neglect on the pai t of the workmen in chaige, which mayor may not ha\c been the case. A similar circumstance happened on Wednesday morning, and it may now be taken for granted that both were the outcome of one cause, and that malice. Respecting the occurrence on Wednesday morning, the following telegiam was recehed by the chairman of the county council at Cambridge on Wednesday evening: — "Fulltiuck came down fein spur this morning unattached to rope, causing damage to the extent of £10 Accident caused by chock at top of spur having been, during the night, maliciously propped up, so that the rltst tiuck when brought into position for attaching rope by biakesmati went o\er to the top and down spur btfoie man had noticed dis placement of chock. Necessary to have policeman stationed here at once, Urge council to take steps to secure one. Up truck filled with dynamite and caps. If collision had occurred, no telling of the extent of damage to piopeity, and piobablytolife. H. H. Aduis." This certainly indicates a nice state of alV.uis at the goldfield, and the sooner sttps aic taken to detect and snppiess any such conduct the bet tei for the community at large. The council has communicated with Superintendent '' hoirson, asking Mm to take the necessary steps to June the p'acc brought under polire piotection.
