Miscellaneous. Auckland, Friday Night. It has been decided to for a Freemasons' Lod£;e at Ponsonby. Thirty shops have been erected in Hobson-street in three years. Labouring men in the city, where work is scarce, complain of the action of the Lumpers' Union, who accept employment on city and other works, at less than the current rate of wages.

Fire. At four o'clock this morning smoke was discovered issuing from the cellar of Hettin Bros.' grocery, Queenstreet. The Pire Brigade were promptly in attendance, and soon succeeded in extinguishing the fire, which was found to exist amongst some cases in the centre of the cellar. Examination showed that the fire had originated amongst some rubbish, tea wrappers, paper, &c.,.and had from this spread to some cases containing jams, &c. The damage by the fire is not extensive, but the smoke and water has considerably injured the stock. The damage done is between £400 and £500. The stock was insured, for £550, and the fittings for £150 in the Union Office, and the building, which is very little damaged, is insured for £2100, also in the Uuion.
