FATAL FIRE AT NELSON. [BY TELEGRAPH. — OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Nelson, Wednesday Night.
Wednesday Night. A five-roomed cottage near Hardy-street was discovered to be on fire at five o'clock this evening, but was &oon extinguished. It was found that the occupant, wellknown and esteemed, especially in musical circles, Mm Scaife, sen., had been burnt to" death. Mrs Scaife lived by herself, and had not been seen later than 3 o'clock, when a visitor left. As her remains wer« found between the h're-place and the door of thesit-ting-room, it is surmised that her dress became ignited by coming in contact with tho grate, and that she endeavoured to escape, but failed, and the fire then spread to the building.
